It is clear that Jedi are some of the most iconic characters in movies and are overall one of the most important type of character in all of Star Wars. Each Jedi has their own personality, affinities, and skills, some better than others. In this blog, we're taking a look at the top Jedi in all of Star Wars. These are rated by their importance to the saga, their skills and mindset, and also with a little opinion from a lifelong Star Wars nerd. Enjoy!
Honorable Mentions
These guys didn't make my top 10 but are definitely worthy of recognition.
Ki-Adi Mundi- very logical and wise Jedi, fought valiantly and respected others even while being far superior
Shaak Ti- awesome design and very compassionate Jedi. Highly skilled and has an interesting history in the Star Wars universe
Ezra Bridger- not technically a real Jedi, but showcases all the traits of a True Jedi
Coleman Trebor- I mean just look at him. He's basically god.
#10- Kit Fisto
He doesn’t say much, but that smile is certainly worth a ton. Kit deserves a spot on this list for a number of reasons. Kit is one of the most powerful Jedi, surviving the entirety of The Clone Wars. While he may have been killed by Darth Sidious rather quickly, It’s explained that Sidious is just that powerful and it’s amazing that he lasted the couple seconds that he did. Personally, I am a bit biased towards Kit because I love his design and he’s been one of my favorites since I was a kid.
#9- Rey Skywalker
Whether you think she’s deserving or such power or not, Rey is powerful AF. Let’s set aside all the blind hatred towards the character and look at the facts. She lived on her own from a very young age and was able to survive in a savage environment. She has a strong affinity towards the Force. I bet her midichlorian count is through the roof. She is brave, headstrong, fights for what she loves and showcases all the traits that would make her a true Jedi. She defeated elite praetorian guards, Kylo Ren and Palpatine all by herself and with the whill of the Force. She trusts the Force when she needs to and brought back Kylo Ren from the Dark Side. What more do you need to be considered a great Jedi? Her character might not be perfect overall, but she makes a damn good Jedi.
#8- Mace Windu
Mace is really on this list for his power and his position in the Jedi Order. I’m not sure if he was always a total ass, or if he became jaded by the trying times of The Clone Wars, but his attitude is the reason he’s not #2 or #3 on this list. Mace is overall one of the most powerful Jedi to ever live, but they’ve really showcased his lack of respect for others that aren’t as powerful as him. His skills with a lightsaber and his ability to tap into the dark side without fully letting it in, are what make him truly special. He essentially defeated Palpatine and only got defeated by his rash decision to want to kill Palpatine. All in all, great jedi and warrior, not a nice guy.
#7- Ahsoka Tano
While her title as a Jedi may be shaky with the Jedi Order, but Ahsoka holds all the values of what it means to be a true Jedi. We see her bravery and her passion for peace throughout the Clone Wars and on through the time of Star Wars: Rebels. She fights for what she believes in with no consideration for her own well-being. She is selfless, and she only cares about others. That is the sentiment of a True Jedi.
#6- Kanan Jarrus
We’re going to start seeing that “selfless” theme over and over as we continue down this list. Kanan was not at all what a Jedi would hope to be when we first met him in Star Wars: Rebels. However, as we see more of the character, and he grew to be Ezra’s master, we really see the true Jedi come out of him. He becomes someone that is selfless and understanding of the Force. I think the fact that he went blind put a lot of things into perspective for him and it really improved his overall character. I personally love that his voice was heard in The Rise of Skywalker, giving a nod to a Jedi well-deserving of more recognition.
#5- Plo Koon
My love for Plo Koon started on a warm summer day in the year 2000. Playing Jedi Power Battles, I would always choose this dude with the orange lightsaber just because it was cool. I got his action figure later on, and always loved the look of the character. He didn't do much in the prequels, but The Clone Wars really fleshed out the character into a really awesome, compassionate character. I loved the way he treated clone troopers and seemed to value every form of life. He was one Jedi that never let his power get to his head, and overall I think that was the most important thing at the time of The Clone Wars.
#4- Obi-Wan Kenobi
No explanation really needed here, right? Other than Anakin and maybe Luke, I don’t think there's a more fleshed out and complex character in Star Wars. As a jedi, he has all the attributes a Jedi seeks to have: confidence, patience, skill, and focus. I love his relationship with Anakin, even if he was blind to what was happening to him. He always let Anakin have a little fun against his best judgement. He fought through so much and dealt with so much turmoil in his life, yet he never let his morals waver or let anger get the best of him. Obi-Wan is just an all-around great guy and overall I think the most “Jedi” out of any character.
#3- Yoda
If you don't love Yoda, I'm concerned for your health. He is such a loveable character, even at his most serious moments. As the grandmaster of the Jedi, he was responsible for everything that happened to them, which is pretty heartbreaking. He had such hope and confidence in his people, but there was only so much he could do. I love his goofiness and seriousness at the same time. Also, I'll never be able to forget him throwing a lightsaber through a clones chest and jumping on him to retrieve it. Savage.
#2- Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon could so easily be my favorite Jedi if #1 didn't exist. I didn't really appreciate his character as much when I was younger, but as I've gotten older and come to understand him, he's become one of my all-time favorite characters in general. I love that he has his own ideals, while being a part of something bigger. He chose his side of the Jedi, but he didn't let their morals and ideals completely define him like many Jedi did. I truly wonder how things could have been different if he lived through the Clone Wars. Overall, I think he is one of the most underrated characters. His actions from one movie led to the entirety of the Star Wars saga for both the good and the bad. His wisdom led the Jedi towards immortality, something that’s acknowledged, but mostly overlooked. Qui-Gon is about as close as it gets to being a true Jedi with his own set of morals. That’s not an easy thing to do.
#1- Luke Skywalker
I think most of you who have followed me for a while could predict this without seeing the list. Luke is my favorite in any category that he falls under. I just think his character is perfect. He is the epitome of what it means to be a Jedi. Lays down his weapon in the face of his true enemy, respects all life and droid life, truly powerful and he makes mistakes. Jedi are not perfect and I think his portrayal in The Last Jedi was the perfect example of that. It showcased how much Luke had learned and he went out in true Jedi fashion. His story is the perfect tale of a true hero from start to finish. GOAT.
In Conclusion
Whether you agree with this or not, I think we can all agree that Jedi are AWESOME! They make up such a huge part of the Star Wars universe and really are the essence of most Star Wars projects.
